Blurbs from the Branch: Fractured Fairy Tales

Filed under: Blurbs from the Branch, Info — Tags: — Bethany Branch @ 8:00 am

Looking for funny picture books to read to your child?  A favorite at my house is reading fairy tales that have been retold with a twist or two.  My daughter loves listening to these fractured fairy tales and telling me what’s different from the original stories she knows.  Here are some recent retellings we’ve enjoyed reading together:

Goldie Socks and the Three Libearians by Jackie Hopkins

On her way to school, Goldie Socks stumbles upon a house filled with books where three “libearians” live.

The Library Gingerbread Man by Dotti Enderle

The Gingerbread Man escapes his location at 398.2 on the library shelves and travels through the Dewey Decimal system, running from everyone he meets along the way until the librarian outsmarts him.

The Gingerbread Girl Goes Animal Crackers  by Lisa Campbell Ernst

In this sequel to The Gingerbread Girl , the Gingerbread Boy’s spunky, smart sister receives animal crackers for her birthday.  The animal crackers escape, a chase ensues and the Gingerbread Girl comes to the rescue just in time!

The Very Smart Pea and the Princess-to-Be by Mini Grey

Told from the pea’s point of view, this hilarious story chronicles how the pea ends up under twenty mattresses and helps select the real princess.

Princess Pigtoria and the Pea by Pamela Duncan Edwards

Using alliteration with the letter P, Princess Pigtoria responds to Prince Proudfoot’s personal ad looking for a bride.
