Welcome to the Cedar Mill Library’s Quick Picks blog. This is where members of our staff in our various departments and branches can share with the public interesting books, media, tips and events. Each library department has a different day that they post their suggestion or tip. You can learn a little more about each department below:
Mondays – Adult Services
The Adult Services department buys materials for adults, answers questions at the reference desk and online, processes loan requests to and from other library systems, and develops programs for adults including all of our popular computer classes. Our posts are labeled Off the Shelf for book and media recommendations or In the Know for tips on using technology, interesting community events or other useful tidbits that we come across in our jobs.
Tuesdays – Bethany Branch
The Bethany Branch library is our popular branch library in the Bethany Village shopping center. The employees there contribute posts every Tuesday and they are labeled Blurbs from the Branch. You can often find their recommendations on their Facebook page as well.
Wednesdays – Technical Services
The Technical Services department orders, recieves, catalogs, processes and labels all of the materials that are ordered by the library (as well as any donations that go into the collection). These hardworking folk are rarely seen, but they are the first ones to see any new materials and they love to share their knowledge in their Straight Out of the Box, Inside Scoop and What I’m Reading Now posts.
Thursdays – Youth Services
The Youth Services department orders all of the materials for kids and teens and develops programs for youth including our wonderful storytimes. You can count on them for interesting picture book recommendations and books for school aged kids in their Kid’s Corner posts. For teen suggestions, be sure to check out our separate teen blog called Words of Wiser.
Fridays – Circulation
The friendly people at the check out desk have lots of suggestions too. These folks help process all of your holds you make, answer most questions by phone and in person about your account and in general represent the face of the Library, every day. You can find out what they’ve been readiing in their Checking In posts every Friday.
