I totally agree with what you are doing. Information is power and people who want to restrict or control the flow of information whether that is by banning a book or limiting social sites on the internet are only trying to control and influence the flow of power among the people.

Have I got a display for you! From now through mid-February, the central display at Cedar Mill is Murder Around the World: International Mysteries. In addition to discovering a great new mystery (or 2 or 3), you can pick up a brochure featuring mystery series from every continent (yes, even Antarctica).

This is a great service - being able to review new books as they come in, rather than having to search for new titles on the shelf. I also appreciate your comments - you do write very well - and your abstract is very helpful in selecting books to read. Thanks Mark!

If you like the dog aspect of Edgar Sawtelle, try The Art of Racing in the Rain by Garth Stein. It is narrated by a dog who tries to heal a rift between members of his human family.

The Edgar Sawtelle book was well-reviewed in Wednesday's New York Times. Sounds fascinating, particularly about the dogs -- great interview/commentary on author's relationship with dogs which is reflected in many ways in the novel. NYT - http://www.nytimes.com/2008/07/09/books/09dogs.html?scp=6&sq=dogs&st=nyt

I'd like to add a link to some work-in-progress by semi-local author Kim Antieau - The Church of the Old Mermaids. It's still waiting for publication, but the material has garnered enough fan interest to generate a COTOM meetup/conference this spring(!). Kim is an accomplished YA author, and works as a librarian for Fort Vancouver Regional Library. Enjoy!
