Tax Forms: Changes for 2011 – forms online

IRS Forms and Instructions Online ‘Tis the end of another year and many of us start thinking of (not sugarplums but) tax return preparation. Things will be a bit different this year for everyone, including the library. One of the big headlines:

As announced by the Internal Revenue Service in early October, the IRS will not automatically mail tax forms to individuals. The government is asking citizens to use web-based products and services.

As in past years:

  • Both Cedar Mill libraries will offer online access to forms and publications from any public computer in the library (catalog, research, and internet workstations).
  • Printing is 10 cent per page; deposit funds to your library card account or pay at the reference desk.
  • We will also have sets of the reproducible forms (for photocopying).
  • We will not have printed forms for distribution.

NEW for 2011: We will have a small collection of circulating copies of the most popular publications (including Instructions for the 1040 and 1040A, Tax Guides for Small Business, Farms). These will be handled as “Bestsellers” – 2 week checkout, no holds allowed. Look for them in late January in the Bestseller shelves at the library.

To order forms by mail, complete the order form located at: http://www.irs.gov/formspubs/page/0,,id=10768,00.html or call 1-800-829-3676.

For tax information year-around, find the IRS on the web at http://www.irs.gov.
